Pre-sale ends this Sunday...

I am beyond thrilled that this book will very soon be in people’s hands! My heartfelt thanks to each and every person who has already purchased!

I spent countless hours photographing subjects for The Birthday Book Project (TBBP), averaging a few hours on each portrait and logging more than 1,500 km in travel…and countless more since I was told that TBBP’s editor would not be completing the project, which led to my decision to design a book honouring my subjects: 53 BIRTHDAYS: A Portrait Collection

This was never intended to be a ‘money maker’ project - no subject paid for their session and I gifted the finished ‘birthday shot’ to each of them, with my thanks for participating…rather, it was: an adventure (mis-adventure 😬) in collaboration; an opportunity to honour each person & their vision through portraiture; and the chance to stretch myself, my work, and my portfolio. With that in mind, I designed this book to be both beautiful, with a hardcover and high quality paper, AND reasonable (keeping the price per book to within a few dollars of the cost to print one).

Friends, we’ve lost three of these beautiful people since we created their portraits together: Edna in 2016, Sherri in 2018, and Ryan in 2020 (please follow along on IG or FB as I pay homage). I am saddened that they never got to see the finished product, which has only strengthened my belief & resolve that portraiture is indeed important and meaningful…offering tangible legacy. This was even further reinforced just yesterday, on Remembrance Day, when our feeds were filled with the pictures of young men and women, who so valiantly served to ensure our many freedoms, as their descendants thanked and honoured them (a nod here to my ‘Pop’, Bill (Smiler) Martin).

It’s my fervent hope that each person within this collection of portraits, and those that love them, will have a copy of this book on their shelf…a celebration of beautiful people who have all contributed to our collective experience in this one precious life.

The pre-sale (and discounted price) for the book will end this Sunday, November 15, after which it will continue to be available through my publisher but at a higher cost+shipping. I hope you’ll consider owning and/or gifting one. 🙏🏼

To secure your copy(ies) simply e-transfer $80/book to lori@lorimaloney.com and include a note with your name and the number of copies you’d like, for pickup in NW Calgary.

With heaps of gratitude,

Lori
