Am I alone or did Christmas sorta sneak up on you too? 😬 All the nice weather we’ve been having here in Alberta lured me into feeling like I still had plenty of time … alas, we are now within days of the ‘big day’ and - for many of us - there’s still plenty to do!
You may think I’m biased in believing portraiture the ultimate gift; however, it’s not as a photographer that I passionately advocate for women to have this experience, rather it’s as a woman… daughter, sister, friend, and mom.
So often when people are asked the ‘ice breaker’ question:
’Your house is on fire, and everyone is safe. You have 30 seconds to run through the house and collect 2-3 things you want to save. What would you grab? Why?’
Almost without exception one of the three things people list is: the photos!
(On a very personal note… our home was recently burglarized and one of the things taken was a memory box of mine that had nothing of ‘value’ BUT that held irreplaceable photos of people and pups we’ve lost. 😔)

For myriad reasons women tend to avoid being photographed, which sadly means two things:
they may never get to see themselves as their loved ones see them
AND
their loved ones may not have portraits of her that she actually loves/d.
